Lucy, a female great white shark, looks at the camera from a distance image

Bent, but not broken

The lovely Lucy, a female great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), is one of the most recognizable sharks who visits Isla de Guadalupe, due to her deformed caudal fin (tail). It’s believed that Lucy was bitten by another shark, resulting in the deformity. Lucy has adapted to the injury with a modified swimming method, and she has maintained a healthy weight over the years.
